We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the C5I (Command, Control, Communications, Computing, Cyber and Intelligence) product line within the Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) Software Department. Our C5I teams deliver multi‑language, multi‑platform software across Linux services, microservices, REST APIs, Windows front‑end applications, and HTML/TypeScript UIs.
The C5I ecosystem includes development in C++, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Lua, C, and Python, built and deployed through CI/CD pipelines in an Agile DevSecOps environment. This role provides the opportunity to contribute to mission‑critical systems that support the Air Defense Operations Center (ADOC) and broader C5I capabilities.
This position is located onsite in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.
What You Will Do
Design, develop, integrate, and test software components across C5I applications, including Linux services, microservices, REST APIs, and UI components.
Contribute to implementation of algorithms and system features that enable mission‑critical functionality.
Analyze, implement, and validate software modifications to enhance performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Participate in and occasionally lead software design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions.
Perform root‑cause analysis for complex defects, using debugging tools and instrumentation to diagnose performance and functional issues.
Collaborate closely with Systems Engineering, Integration & Test, and Platform teams to ensure seamless integration and alignment to requirements.
Contribute to Agile execution and continuous‑improvement efforts, including refining development standards and documentation.
Support high‑quality, recurring software deliveries that meet program milestones and customer expectations.
Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and technical excellence.

Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a Bachelors of Science Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
Experience developing software in C++ and/or Java, including Git workflows, code reviews, and Linux/UNIX development environments.
Experience developing software in an Agile Scrum or Kanban team environment.
Experience collaborating with cross‑functional engineering teams and contributing to technical problem solving.
Ability to obtain U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required after start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
Domain knowledge in C2 and C5I operations, such as Link16, HMI development, Mission Defense Planning, Simulation & Modeling, or TEWA.
Experience with radar, missile defense, or other large‑scale, mission‑critical defense systems.
Experience with integration and testing frameworks, and strong debugging skills.
Ability to work effectively in fast‑paced environments with time‑critical requirements.
Experience designing or contributing to modular, reusable software architectures.
Experience with JIRA/Confluence, Git workflows, CI/CD environments, Eclipse, and related toolchains.
Familiarity with CMMI/IPDS processes, MBSE tools such as Cameo, or AI‑enabled software development practices.
Strong communication skills and the ability to lead technical discussions and mentor junior team members.
Strong understanding of software development lifecycle activities, including design, implementation, integration, and testing.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
